I watch mostly movies considered bad, but this week, I decided to watch some movies that are considered good.
Or at least, movies that would eventually considered good.
The first I watched was PEEPING TOM from 1960 and it is the last I needed to see of what is called (according to Wikipedia) the "Sadean Triology" along with HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM and CIRCUS OF HORRORS. I loved both of those movies, but they felt like straight up B movie schlock, Fun schlock, but schlock, and PEEPING TOM felt like a Hitchcock movie he forgot to release.
I've been meaning to watch PEEPINIG TOM since reading about it in The Psychotronic Encyclopedia of Film, and I must say, it did not look like what I had imagined.
I thought the killing spear coming out of his camera tripod was going to be more like the device in HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM where he hits a button and it juts out. But no, he just un-caps it and goes towards them.
I can't believe it took Martin Scorsese to make people know this movie is great! Michaell Powell got a raw deal!
The press compared him to the Marquis De Sade for this? It's not even bloody! The gore is implied!
I want to hear anyone's memory of seeing this on late night TV the first time! What did you think then!?
