A combination of emphysema from years of smoking combined with the death sentence COVID would likely mean for someone in his condition likely signals an end to his directorial career. He can't go far without needing oxygen, and leaving his house might expose him to a fatal illness. He doesn't rule out directing remotely, but he sure didn't sound too optimistic about it.
