A tantalizing list derived from another list, from Jim S:
"In 1968, an influential film critic posited a list of 1741 films
to represent the best of Hollywood (and British) films from 1929-1967.
I thought it might be amusing, or combative, to select those that qualify from the first thousand or so films that cover the "Golden
Age of Horror" (including fantasy and sci-fi of course)
i.e. 1929-1949. Most of the omissions are of course his
but some blame can be attributed to my attempts
at deciding which films were sufficiently "borderline" or not.
1929--THE LAST WARNING
1930--LILIOM/OUTWARD BOUND
1931--THE BAT WHISPERS/FRANKENSTEIN/DRACULA
1932--DR.JEKYLL AND MR.HYDE/THE INVISIBLE MAN/FREAKS/
THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME/THE MUMMY
1933--KING KONG/BERKELEY SQUARE
1934--THE BLACK CAT/THE WITCHING HOUR
1935--PETER IBBETSON/THE SCOUNDREL/BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
1936--THE GHOST GOES WEST/THE MAN WHO COULD WORK MIRACLES
THINGS TO COME/THE DEVIL DOLL
1937--LOST HORIZON/NIGHT MUST FALL
1938--N/A
1939--THE WIZARD OF OZ/HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME
1940--THE THIEF OF BAGDAD/ONE MILLION B.C.
1941--HERE COMES MR. JORDAN/ALL THAT MONEY CAN BUY/
LADIES IN RETIREMENT
1942--THE CAT PEOPLE/I MARRIED A WITCH/
1943--HEAVEN CAN WAIT/I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE/THE LEOPARD MAN/
CABIN IN THE SKY/A GUY NAMED JOE/FLESH AND FANTASY/THE
SEVENTH VICTIM/THE GHOST SHIP
1944--ARSENIC AND OLD LACE/BLUEBEARD/IT HAPPENED TOMORROW/
LADY IN THE DARK/CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE/THE UNINVITED/

1947--THE BOY WITH GREEN HAIR/THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR/

1948--N/A
1949--CORRIDOR OF MIRRORS.
Please don't let Mr. Sarris have the last word (or warning) here."
"Ladies in Retirement"? And, I just realized--no "White Zombie"!
