It started in a small way - as a web series by manhua genius Mi Er in 2017.
The premise was that aliens walked amongst us, looking like us, able to feed off our qi (inner spirit) - but they weren't unified. The aliens had split into factions, warring against each other in the shadows and against humanity. College student Zhang Chulan (Hu Xianxu) returns to his village to attend his grandfather's funeral. After the funeral, walking through the cherry trees, he is attacked by zombie-like creatures. Chulan is rescued by Feng Baobao (hot new star Vanda Magraf). Baobao (means sweetheart in Chinese) informs Chulan that his grandfather investigated the aliens and now it's up to him to pick up the pieces - but she will need to teach him a few tricks first.
Seven years later and we're looking at a web series that has received thirty billion hits (yes, you read that correctly), spawned twenty-one graphic novels, a five-series animation on TV, a live-action series in 2023 (worth watching - available in the usual places) and now a motion picture.
Fresh from storming the world with the first-part of the Creation of the Gods trilogy, cult director Wu Ershan (or Wuershan as he's Mongolian) promises us sparks will fly in the first part of his new Outcast trilogy (also known as Under the Alien) released in July.
