Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke take their two kids on an impromptu vacation to a fairly remote rented home outside the city. Once there, strange things start to happen. While enjoying a day at the beach an oil freighter plows into the coast. Deer, lots of deer, show up in the backyard. The owner returns to the home under mysterious circumstances. The internet, cable, and cell phones all go down. What's happening?
Interesting apocalyptic film full of unanswered questions. Julia Roberts is a real beotch and it is her character almost alone that creates a queasy, uneasy sense of ominous peril throughout the movie. Although primarily a small ensemble piece there are moments of spectacle and wonder. I dreaded the 141 minute running time but it went by quickly.
