With many folks exclaiming that GODZILLA MINUS ONE is the greatest Godzilla film of all thirty-eight including the original - What Say You??
The official stance is that Minus One is a 'reboot' but it's really a remake (I guess if you want to be fancy, you could call it a "Re-Imagining" - remember, when Hollywood try to sell that term?).
Sure, the plots are "different" enough that they don't give the original 1954 screenwriters credit, but it follows the same pattern, set in roughly the same time period and Zilla follows the same basic arc. They even incorporate a 21st Century version of the "oxygen destroyer" here and the theme of self-sacrifice is laid upon heavily. And, of course, they incorporate Akira Ifukube's masterpiece of a score and some of the original lizard king's roars on the soundtrack to boot.
If it looks like a 1954 Gojira, walks like a 1954 Gojira and roars exactly like a 1954 Gojira - it's a remake. (a damn fine one)
Thoughts?
