New children's Russian film, Guests from Space is released this week - it looks fun.
The plot centres around a schoolboy who discovers there are alien scouts of all ages who live among us. Are they good or evil? Nobody believes him - at first - except for an attractive blonde schoolgirl he's always had a crush on. Suddenly, she seems friendly. As more is unveiled, the plot thickens. I was reminded a little of an excellent British children's TV series The Demon Headmaster - though the plots differ in detail.
Busy director Filip Dmitriev is also responsible for the current retro Russian anime Nevsky based on the comic book and of course vaguely (very vaguely) the 13th century Russian hero Alexander Nevsky (much like Richard the Lionheart in the public imagination). Th enemy this time are not those pesky Swedes but intergalactic monsters from the dark dimensions.
