Hey all
I've had an account on the board for a few years but only recently decided to start posting on here.
I'm a fan from the 90s who was directed towards classic horror by TNTs Monstervision (pre-Joe Bob) and AMCs Monster Fest before it became Fear Fest. My first Universal Monster movie was the Creature from the Black Lagoon but probably my FAVORITE will always be Frankenstein from 1931. My grandmother bought me the Universal Studios Monsters Classic Collection version in the Fall of 1997 when I was in 1st grade. That was also the year the United States Postal Service issued the monsters stamps and there were several documentaries about classic horror movies on television (specifically the Universal Horror documentary that was included on the 2012 Blu Ray of Frankenstein). Here, I was introduced to legends like Ray Bradbury, Forrest J. Ackerman (my first name is also Forest, though with one R), David J. Skal (Rest in Peace), and others. There was also the partnership Pepsi Co had with Universal and Halloween Horror Nights, resulting in numerous commercials featuring the Monsters, as well as Elvira.
The 90s was truly a great time for young monster kids who were becoming new fans and even though I wasn't around for the first Monster Kid boom that started in the late 50s, I feel like the 90s were another moment in time similar to that of the 50s. There were even movies like Joe Dante's Matinee and the often forgotten about Frankenstein and Me, which celebrated being a kid during that time in the 50s and 60s.
And don't even get me started on Godzilla.
Attached is a picture of my Universal Monsters VHS collection as a kid, still proudly on my shelf today.
Looking forward to interacting with everyone and sharing the love of movies that I hold very close to my heart.
