Murder and Mystery • "Father Brown, Detective" (1934)

"Lap it up.  Lap it up."  Not well adapted from the Chesterton stories, all of which I read, a long long time ago.  Maybe Father Brown is a character who just plays better in print than on film--the Guinness version and the more recent TV series were weak tea, too.  Paul Lukas as Flambeau has a strong scene depicting, to Brown, what it's like to be near an attractive woman, but even he gets a little silly when he's actually near the woman.  Sappy, happy ending is also sort of sweet.  Una O'Conor gets one of her patented Whale shrieks.😕
