Hi all, hope you're all well, and a Happy '25 to everyone. I'm in the process of recreating some of the famous Castle Films 8mm 'digests' of the 1960s in high-res video--shot-for-shot. I'm using videos uploaded to YouTube as references. Most of the ref videos are of very low quality but so far I've completed DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN, and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN--all around 8 minutes each. They're looking really good.
However, SON OF FRANKENSTEIN has raised a mystery for me. There's a cut/shot in the 8mm version which doesn't seem to be in the full movie. It's the scene where Inspector Krough (Lionel Atwill) has placed Wolf Von Frankenstein (Basil Rathbone) under house arrest and has turned up at the mansion to question him; it leads to a game of darts. Once inside the house, Krough gives an order to one of his men then goes into the room where Wolf sits, deep in thought. When he hears Krough knock, Wolf jumps up quickly and starts throwing darts. In the full length version, we see Wolf in long shot jump up and say, "Come in." But in the Castle films version, just before Wolf reacts, there is a medium profile shot of him which only lasts for a couple of seconds. I have checked the three copies of the full movie I have and it is missing. Can anyone help? I'm baffled. I've included a reference image here from the 8mm version. Apologies for the poor image.
