Although I've been retired from USA TODAY for almost 10 years (yikes!), I still write an annual appreciation of notable deaths from the past year.
It ranges this time from Quincy Jones and James Earl Jones to Elwood Edwards, AOL's "You've got mail!" voice.
I, of course, could not include everyone (as the years roll on and lifespans lengthen, recognizable personalities grow longer and longer). I sometimes joke that in the end, it's "people I've heard of."
Anyways, this year they gave me six pages (!), in today's Life section. And the online version is linked below:
