When boxer Robert Blake is framed for murdering his crooked manager, he escapes police custody and goes after the real killer in order to clear his name.

This crime drama fits solidly into the "poliziotteschi" category, a subgenre of crime/action films that emerged in Italy in the late 1960s and reached the height of their popularity in the 1970s.

The IMDb comments vary between "not worth bothering with" and "a must-see for fans of...neo-noir," but I went in with low expectations and quite enjoyed THE BOXER for a first time viewing.

The film has long circulated in washed out, heavily cut prints (77m), but Tubi is currently streaming a fully uncut 89m version, excellent quality widescreen in Italian with English subtitles.

Also with Tomas Milian, and Camille Keaton in a small role.
