Coming to Netflix early next year, this massive Argentinian production of the 1950s Spanish-language tebeo (comic book) by Héctor Germán Oesterheld. Hector was a fascinating character - he became a spokesperson for the Monteneros guerilla group that fought against the military dictatorship in the country. He was forced into hiding but still produced El Eternauta. Shortly after he finished his meisterwerk, he 'disappeared' in 1977 along with many others under the junta.
Briefly, a toxic snowfall, prelude to an alien invasion, wipes out most of the population - the survivors group together in small enclaves. The rest of the world abandons Argentina and the survivors are forced to combat the aliens alone - but there's much more to the story than that.
Hector would have appreciated the work of El Eternauta's lead actor Roberto Darin in Argentina 1985 (2022) in which a team of small-time lawyers take on the task of prosecuting the the junta that fell in 1983. The film won a shedload of awards:
