Final Farewells • Julie Stevens, Venus Smith of The Avengers

Rodney Marshall, son of Avengers writer Roger Marshall, is reporting the death of actress Julie Stevens. She played nightclub singer Venus Smith, another "talented amateur" helper to evil dastardly-basher Partrick Macnee's John Steed after original partner Dr. Keel was written out of the show in the first season. Venus was part of a rotating group of such aids, but she & the others were written out in favor of the most popular of the new sidekicks, Honor Blackman's leather-clad adventuress Cathy Gale. Julie was also in the great Carry On Cleo. RIP, bowlers at half mast.
