THE COMPLETE BADGER, VOL. 1
By Mike Baron, Jeffery Butler, Rick Burchett, Dennis Wolf, Les Dorscheid, Bill Reinhold, Jeff Dee, John Workman, Linda Lessmann, and Rick Taylor

Norbert Sykes is a troubled man. Due to an abusive childhood he has multiple personality disorder. He was also in the Special Forces in Vietnam. Put an unstable mind and mastery of the martial arts and you have one dangerous individual.
A 5th century druid named Hammaglystwythkbrngxxaxolotl (Ham for short since I can't even pronounce that full name in my head!) was a dangerous weather wizard who was put into a coma by a congregation of all of the world's wizards and was discovered in a vegetative state in Madison, Wisconsin. He telepathically communicates and hatches a plan to escape the mental hospital he's in with the guy in the next room, who just so happens to be Norbert! Both are being studied by psychiatrist Ms. Daisy Fields and when Sykes (who just made himself a costume) tricks the staff there into thinking he's sane, Ham also snaps into action to escape.

Ham, being able to manipulate things with magic is able to make himself a millionaire through "winning" contests. Then he hires Sykes, now patrolling the streets of Madison as The Badger looking for criminals to pummel, as his chauffeur/bodyguard, and Ms. Fields as his secretary. Then he takes over a small castle nearby as a headquarters.
![]()
Ham's discovery of the concept of tornadoes makes him formidable and alerts a wizard known as The Yak, who travels to the U.S. with his yeti bodyguard to shut Ham down permanently. A face off with the conservative comics-hating Reverend Leopold Grabbit at his mass comics-burning rally, Ham is drawn to a mystical tree, which is on the land of a uranium mining corporation. When they cut it down Ham's wrath will not be abated as he summons a huge tidal wave to destroy their corporate headquarters in L.A. with only the Yak able to stop him, if he can get there in time.

So, did you get all that? I don't usually read comics that are actually comic, but this one was loads of fun as Ham tries to consolidate his power in his Midwestern castle while The Badger has his own adventures where he talks to animals, actually surrenders to authorities what with the criminal pummelings and such (fat lot of good it does), and actually makes a friend in fellow martial artist, Jabberwocky. There's lots of wackiness amongst the action that makes this a fun and compelling read. Recommended.
