Taped off the ABC late show, WJLA Channel 7, in Washington, DC.
I had the film on that VHS tape for years and watched it, or portions of it, several times.
I tend to enjoy films where cynical people in power (US Senator Hal Holbrook in this case) look upon an affinity group and exploit them as a gang of useful idiots to their own benefit, only to find in the end that those “useful idiots” turn the tables on them. I only wish this wasn’t true to life.
One of my two favorite AIP Beach Babes, Salli Sachse, has a very sweet appearance in what is likely the only tender scene in the entire film.
A lot of the songs are pretty cool. 52% was pretty cheesy. The Shape of Things to Come is a true classic.
Greg Brady started out as a disaffected youth. Who knew?!?
Christopher Jones would star in two of the biggest hits AIP had from the company’s inception up through 1968; Wild in the Streets and Three in the Attic. Shelley Winters would be featured in several AIP films at this stage of her career, and she's bat$h1t crazy here. A young Richard Pryor is the drummer for Max Frost’s band... hilarious.
Still one of my favorite AIP films.
I'm surprised I couldn't find a thread devoted to this fun near-future shock film.
