Juan Rulfo's classic 1955 novel is part-magic realism, part-post modern - this new Netflix adaptation walks a similar path along a long dusty Mexican highway:

Juan Preciado promises his mother on her deathbed to track down his father for the first time in the town of Comala - but when he gets there, he finds it's a ghost town, populated by spectral characters. The ghostly inhabitants reveal details about life and afterlife in Comala - including that of Preciado's reckless father, Pedro Páramo, and his dark secret.
