Hi folks, just thought I'd post an obligatory first post!
I'm Ryan, I reside in Scotland (in the Highlands not far from Nessie!) and am an avid fan of classic horror, although I'd be the first to say there is loads and loads of old horror I've never seen! (Hammer Horror is something of a blind spot for me as I've never really watched any. I will ammend this one day, hopefully!)
I'm 34, so not quite of the age to have seen all the good stuff when it was first released, but have a rather mountainous collection of Blu-Rays. Particular love for the science horrors of the 1950s, the aliens and giant bugs/ mutant abominations. Love it!
I have an addiction to sofubi (not sure if this term is very well known) but basically Japanese Soft-Vinyl toys, and my focus is mainly toys based around giant movie monsters. It can be an expensive hobby, but the retro 1960s/70s aesthetic is so charming, and it has been a blast collecting over the past few years. I even managed to get out to Tokyo post-Pandemic and had to mail back a box full of monster toys!
I also collect the usual stuff any '90s kid loved, Boglins, Monster in my Pocket, and obscure toy lines like Pocket Shockers.
I've also recently fallen accidentally into collecting masks, which wasn't an intention. Nothing too expensive and rare, mainly Trick or Treat Studios, as frankly I can't afford everything and there's a lot of cool stuff out there.
I also like 70s and 80s horror paperbacks, and vintage halloween stuff.
Outside of filling my house with spooky junk, I'm a big fan of punk rock, and I've been a games reviewer for a few years working on British gaming magazines like the ZX Spectrum magazine Crash! as well as Fusion, a retro game magazine covering all sorts really. I've also written a blog for the past seven or eight years, covering retro toys and things, although that has been neglected over the past few years in favour of working on a "swashbuckling" space novel.
Sooo yeah! Looking forward to learning some stuff, chatting with some folks, and generally all round appreciating the horror classics!
Thanks for having me!
