Welcome to the CHFB • The Great Currrent Films/Coming Soon/Independents & Documentaries Debate

We have Current Films (2020-now) and Coming Soon (films not yet released). I think that the original intention between the two is clear,  but there nevertheless remains much grey area:

 - If a film has been released somewhere in the world but not in the US or Europe, does it more properly need to be in Current Films or Coming Soon? I would say that it is coming soon until the official US release, unless there isn't one.

- One a film has been released, there are a small but vocal group of people who want that film's folder to be moved from Coming Soon to Current Films immediately. It sometimes happens quickly or on the day of US release, particularly for high profile films, but in other cases a film released in the US remains in the Coming Soon designation for awhile.

Suggestion: what would make the most sense is for Coming Soon and Current Films to be just a single board - Current Film (2020-Today). If a film is coming soon, it could be remarked in the title of the thread. For instance, make the thread title something like Beetlejuice 2 (Coming Soon). Then when the film is released, the original poster or a moderator can change the title to the year of release like Beetlejuice 2 (2024). It would likely cut down on duplicate posts on upcoming film, although some will also be siphoned off into Independents and Documentaries.

Does Independents and Documentaries really do justice to what is coming out? I say that as what constitutes Independents in this day and age is quite a vast and vague idea. I'm thinking that organizationally this folder is often a dumping ground for a number of really interesting ideas that might do better on their own. Documentaries, short films, "independent films", homemade amateur films, z-grade Troma-esq films, all of these could use their own area of the board. Would it be worth it to have them separated out somehow?

Thanks to the mods for doing their thing and keeping us all running well, but maybe it's time to look at this part of the board and figure if any of my suggestions or anybody else's might make a more cohesive and useful area out of this current-ish films area.
