Shock Talk • Rate the accuracy of movies set in a future now behind us.

In 1965, THE AMAZING CRISWELL predicted that by the year 2000, human evolution would result in men with fully functional lactating breasts. Obviously, this did not come to pass(though I've noticed the guy next door to me is developing a might perky pair of moobs). Conversely, he also made a somewhat accurate prediction of the JFK assassination.  Maybe he wasn't a complete charlatan after all? Ehh...throw enough s*** at the wall, and some of it's bound to stick eventually.
So...how have movies fared? Let's rate the accuracy of films set in a then-future year which has since come-and-gone
I'll start with a couple...

JUST IMAGINE(1930), takes place in the past(1880), the present(ca. 1930), and the future(1980). Did they get it right? Well, a couple of the film's not-so-fantastical technologies were realized by 1980, but it should have been presupposed that art deco wouldn't spend eternity as the singular aesthetic in architecture and design. The apparel styling is way off, though it is variably suggestive of "new wave" fashions which were, indeed, introduced around 1980. The music didn't even attempt futurism.

THE APPLE(1980) is set in 1994. There are no predicted advancements which came to pass, as far as I can tell, and the styling was already sort of dated by the time it was released. If someone went out in 1994 wearing the glittery/metallic/acrylic/non-stick teflon digs seen in the film, they'd have had their ass kicked for real sure. The music misses the mark by miles, as well.

Okay...your turn,,,
