Let’s Kill Uncle (1966) aka Let's Kill Uncle Before Uncle Kills Us
A playful black comedy that anticipates the basic structure of The Man with the Golden Gun (1974):
Two opponents with what amount to a gentleman’s agreement between them are stuck on an island playing a deadly game, whoever kills the other one wins.
Part lower-budget live-action Disney film, part Addams Family (despite deadly games where the intent is to kill someone else they are tame enough that no one ever seems to die,) part Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (most evident in the tremendous amount of fun Uncle is having in dire contrast with the fun Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka isn’t showing to have, but by all rights should,) the two parts are played by a recent orphan whose father died under suspect circumstances (upon hindsight review,) and his uncle, a former British Army Intelligence commando who’s now penniless but who is set to inherit millions from his dead brother if his nephew dies accidentally.
Despite their original enmity on their way to the island, a troubled girl joins the boy and states the titular line of dialogue once she overcomes her initial The Boy Who Cried Wolf reaction to his tall tales upon finding herself in the middle of a jungle conflagration.
It’s all fun and games and the conclusion not very satisfactory but the fun all the players are clearly having is most infectious.
An odd, gimmicky William Castle (who, unlike Cubby Broccoli, is not afraid to use tarantulas on his actors,) film which had lots more potential than what is achieved here but is still a blast.
With Nigel Green (easily the best thing in the movie,) Pat Cardi, and Mary Badham.
