Pinoy movie having a tough time with the censors - it appears gore, blood, violence and cruelty are passable pretty much - but not a comedy that "goes against the teachings and belief of the Church and Christians. The MTRCB (censors) argued that the movie's portrayal of the controversial figure might influence the viewers, saying that the possibility of Satan being redeemed is deceiving to the eyes of the viewers."
The plot is this: A little girl writes to Santa at Christmas but her spelling's not so good and it ends up with Satan. The Old One sees the chance to capture a soul and he seeks to lure the little girl to the dark side but she's so sweet and innocent that the reverse happens and Satan begins to see the error of his ways.
The producers hoped to beat the ban by changing the name from Dear Satan to Dear Santa and resubmitting the movie but that incredibly cunning ploy failed - the producers are having a hell of a time. The censor has slapped an X certificate on the movie in the Philippines which means it cannot be shown in cinemas - of course, in the modern world, it will still be available through a heap of other avenues worldwide:
Cute little Kiwi-Filipina Sienna Stevens, who plays Chi-Chi, is only seven years old but an amazingly accomplished TV actress with a string of hits under her belt. This version of Dear Santa should not be confused with a surprisingly similar upcoming movie with Jack Black.
