Final Farewells • A Remembrance

It occurred to me, late this afternoon, and out of  blue, that today was the day in August (the 26th) 1930, that Lon Chaney (yes,  Senior) died. He's worth remembering for his drive, his immense talent, virtuosity and daring, and also for the somewhat neglected and gifted son he sired, who inherited a good deal of his father's gift for portraying tragic men; men who, through no fault of their own, were not fit to find a happy place in the societies in which they were born. For these and his many other gifts, Lon Chaney deserves remembrance on this tragic day he passed away, ninety four years ago. Fortunately, we, the living, we can still celebrate his life and talent, and enjoy his work.
