I checked this Asylum film out last night on Amazing Prime. Overall, I liked it. it's not great by any means, and goes off the rails a bit in the third act, but it was entertaining. I think the filmakers hearts were in the right place. The vibe I got from it was as if the Tales From The Crypt show had done an homage to Universal and Hammer horror. The Good: a.) The acting (with one glaring exception) was rather good, particularly the actor who played Dracula. I'd like to see the guy portray the Count in a better film.  b.) The monster makeups were for the most part quite good. The look of the Frankenstein Monster could've been a bit better, but there's a terrific werewolf!  c.) The production design was quite good for a low budget film. d.) And the women were all beautiful. The bad: a.) Michael Madsen as Victor Frankenstein.  He was miscast. This role should've gone to a European actor, or at least an American who can do a convincing European accent. Madsen just sounds like his normal self and walks through the performance.  b.) The script. It's a bit schitzophrenic. The first half is played serious, but a bit of humor starts coming in with the Invisible Man character and by the end scene the film has slipped from homage to near parody. c.) The Frankenstein Monster's height. For goodness sake they could've put the guy in elevated boots so he looks a bit taller than everyone else! Instead, he wears regular shoes and walks a bit hunched over so he comes across looking shorter than the other male actors! The ugly: The CGI creature at the climax. I've seen worse CGI, so I wouldn't call this downright bad, but it could've been better. And having the werewolf talk didn't work. There is of course precedent for talking werewolves (Werewolf Of London; Return Of The Vampire) and ones tolerance for this may differ from mine, but I felt it undermined the werewolf character big time.
