I thought it might be fun to list/discuss the various crossovers of "franchise characters" (for lack of a better term) from the years before the sixties, which decade would launch the best known continuity-verse of the century-- I shouldn't have to say which one, right?
For that matter, shows made for television prior to the sixties barely dealt with crossing over characters as far as I recall. But one reason I put the topic here, rather than SHOCK TALK, is because not all crossovers belong to any of the fantastic genres. The only one I can think of for television is also one of the few to predate 1960: Lucy Ricardo appearing on THE ANN SOTHERN SHOW. I stress "Lucy Ricardo" because I wouldn't deem it a crossover if Sothern's character on the show had simply encountered the "real" Lucille Ball, any more than I'd count any actors appearing as themselves on I LOVE LUCY.
Prose, movies, cartoons, comic books or strips-- though comic books feel like well trod territory to me. But anything goes, from the famous to the obscure.
