For good or bad, ever since I can remember, I prefer sleeping with a TV on. Even if I can barely hear it.
Probably the reason I have such random infomercial dreams.
I often use a movie on disc or scroll through some of the cutrate classic horror or sci-fi channels on Roku.
Movies with lots of stock footage, or early 30 mysteries, Corman black and white, 70s Godzillas or even some Hammers (another bosomy barmaid, sigh), work best.
Plus, it helps if it’s a movie you’ve seen a few times. Movies as a night light. White noise.
Any film with a compelling story or familiar actor doesn’t work — too good a movie commands my sleepy attention. If I hear Atwill I awaken!!
Last night I slept to THE LOST MISSILE (1958), with a heroic Robert Loggia. Not a bad film, truth be told, but it’s mostly stock footage with an ominous missile showing up every other scene, fighter jets. Even Ottawa gets destroyed! On to dreamland.
Am I alone in choosing certain films as lullaby drugs?
