I finally got around to this indie flick from FUTURA PRODUCTIONS!!  And now I'm really  sad that this was the only production by FUTURA PRODUCTIONS because I really dig that name!
It took me so long to get to this movie because it just sounded so boring. I think I was just expecting to be so bored that I ended up kind of not minding it.
YES, it has an annoying kid in it, but on the plus side, I didn't hate him nearly as much as the little boy in THE INVISIBLE BOY. ( And that movie is NAMED after the kid when it should have just been called ROBBIE.)
The dialogue wasn't too bad really for one of these things and I especially liked the part where the science guy offers the grumpy miliary guy a mint.
The "love triangle" is a complete non-starter, but the big story here is, of course, the Cosmic Man himself, John Carradine. He comes to earth in a big space ball thing , the presence of which leads to most of the plot.
He then sneaks into the local lady's bed and breakfast, pretending to be a scientist, dressed in a coat and hat and weird glasses.   I liked how much that part reminded me of THE INVISIBLE MAN.  (It has other elements in common with THE INVISIBLE MAN too, like how the words THE and MAN are in the title.)
The highlight of the entire movie is the scene where  he appears as a shadowy, caped  figure, speaking to the military guys, science guys and civilians, one of whom includes the lady whose bed and breakfast he is currently staying at.   She doesn't seem to notice that both of these mysterious characters who have entered her life sound like John Carradine.
The process for how they did this shadowy look on Johnny boy sounds pretty cool. According to a view of Wikipedia, it says: "The special effect of showing the Cosmic Man as a translucent black figure was done by having Carradine wear "a peculiar-looking set of white tights and a hood to match; he was shot against a black background, then printed in negative into the scene."
I won't spoil the breathtaking, tearjerking ending, but I will leave you with one question that keeps me up at night, "WHAT WILL FUTURA PRODUCTION'S  NEXT PRODUCTION BE!!?"
