First off, I almost am having trouble believing a thread for this one does not exist, but I tried by the site’s search engine and Google with no luck, hence I’m starting a thread.  Like usual, if another thread does exist, moderators, please do your merging magic and sorry for the work.

I just saw this movie for the first time in almost forty years the other day.  That really is saying something as I just turned 45.  What is really crazy is there are character faces, bits of scenery and bits of action I still remember, yet there are films I watched a few months back I could barely tell you a thing about.  Really goes to show two things, 1.) The older I get, it’s obvious my short term memory sucks and 2.) the fact I still remember bits of this film after being so young and so long ago really goes to show how incredibly impressionable young minds are.  Food for thought when dealing with youngsters.

As young kids, my brother and I thought the movie was creepy and to this day my bro, who is two years younger than me, still remembers recurring nightmares he had over the Aughra character.  I came into this current viewing trying to figure out how creepy this thing is and if our young minds were exaggerating.  Well…..not really!

If that bird character slowly dying on the bed wasn’t traumatic enough for a youngster, watching it disintegrate into dust could qualify as lightweight Lucio Fulci.  Those kid puppets being chained into bondage and having their “essence” drained out of them, turning them into slave like zombies is another very creepy bit.  There were a few other things probably escaping my mind, but man, my parents saw the name “Jim Henson” attached to this and parked us in front of the TV screen.  The mid forties version of me?  Absolutely loved it.  I was with a friend and we went to 2nd and Charles.  She bought one of those fifty movie mystery boxes and since DARK CRYSTAL was in there, I begged to watch it.  I couldn’t exactly follow the plot between talking to her and her husband, my texts blowing up from people over a baseball trade, having their two year old running around and their cat jumping on me, but I really dug the whole vibe and will buy this film eventually.  But man did it flood back some memories and I can’t believe I watched this movie so young.

I’d love to read your experiences with this one.
