In the new G-FAN #144, editor/publisher J.D. Lees says he will "end my editorship" with issue #150.

Lees will be the third genre editor recently to abandon publishing, joining Richard Klemensen, who is ending LITTLE SHOPPE OF HORRORS next year, and Michael Stein, who announced last month that FILMFAX is ending with the latest issue.

"These words are VERY tough to type, (in fact, I'm feeling a little 'weepy' as I do it)," Lees writes in an editorial. "I still love producing G-Fan, and after more than thirty years, I guess it's become a part of who I am. However, I have to face the fact that I'm entering what I used to think of as 'old age' and there are a variety of things I'd still like to tackle, but am hindered by the time commitment required to produce the mag and deal with all the related matters.

"I certainly don't wish that G-FAN cease publication, and I'll be looking for ways to keep it running after the end of 2025. Also circumstances evolve and I reserve the right to change my mind. ... If there are updates I'll keep you posted."

Lees, who lived with his wife in Japan for eight years, also oversees the long-running G-FEST convention in Chicago. After two pandemic cancellations in 2020 and 2021, he handed over managing the convention to his daughter.

G-FAN, since its founding as G-FORCE in 1992, has been the kaiju community's most reliable English-based magazine, and routinely includes interviews with Japanese stars and behind-the-scenes creators. G-FAN has long experimented with detailed charts comparing Godzilla's old and new, kaiju films, posters, and even a G-Fan supplement for kids in recent years. Lees was inducted into the Rondo Awards Monster Kid Hall of Fame in 2012.
