Luckily, for complex reasons, I speak Italian - thus it was that twenty years ago I discovered Bonelli comics of Milan (fumetti is the word for comics in Italian).
By far the biggest Italian producer of comic books, Bonelli has over the years created a vast array of heroes from Tex (a spaghetti western type hero) through Nathan Never (a sci-fi hero), Dylan Dog (paranormal investigator), Martin Mystere, Legs Weaver (by far the best creation - the first seventy episodes were explosive) and of course this year's surprise Netflix hit Dampyr (the half-man half-vampire fighter against evil).
Great news is that the success of Dampyr has provoked the company into more projects - the most likely of which is a Dampyr follow-up. Although the movie was a fun testosterone-fuelled action flic, I can promise you it only skimmed the surface of the character, A Dylan Dog TV series is planned and the Dragonero (fantasy) animated series has been renewed for a second season. CEO Michele Masiero promises more to come in what will eventually give birth to a Bonelli universe
