With Kalki 2898 breaking box-office records daily, other studios are rushing to bring forward their latest fantasy epic. Kathanar is a two-parter, the first part now scheduled for release in December.
The story is that of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a legendary 9th-century Christian priest who is said to have had legendary powers. It all sounds a bit doubtful but who cares when the movie stars Anushka Shetty, reason enough to see anything. Anushka starred in the extraordinary Baahubali two-parter (2015/17) which was gripping from start to finish. She followed this with Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019), an epic about the first Indian Mutiny in 1847. Chiranjeevi's performance as the hero was outstanding.
