Anyone who has recently undergone jury service (as I have) will realise how incredibly expensive, inefficient and prone to error, the debating skills of barristers and the whim of jurors the system is - surely there is a better way?
Spanish sci-fi film Artificial Justice premiered at the Ibero-American Fantasy Film Fest in Bogota next week considers just that. Why not hand the whole thing over to an AI that makes decisions based purely on logic and reason - a decision made in moments. Why would anyone reject the AI's decision - no need for appeals courts at all. Why does Carmen (Veronica Echegui - catch her in the superb Unknown Origins (2020)) question the decision?
