Here's my thoughts. First, I was a young teen in England when The Prisoner first aired here--1967/1968. I didn't fully understand it but I loved it and I STILL think it was the best TV show ever made. Enlarging a legendary TV show into a movie can be a good or bad thing. So questions have to asked...
Who can possibly step into McGoohan's shoes? He was a unique, one-off. Intense, intelligent, intimidating, uncompromising actor, writer, and director. I don't want to offend my American cousins but I think Number Six should be played by a British actor--after all, Six was a British agent. Nobody comes to mind at present but let's have some suggestions.
Where would it be set? We all know the original was shot in the Welsh holiday resort of Portmeiron...so would Sir Chris revisit or go for a different location?
Would it be set in modern times or back in the 1960s?
Would Nolan opt for another complex ending or would he have a more straightforward one?
The music played an important part of the show, starting with the jarring theme by Ron Grainer. The rest of the music was composed by several different artists--I have the multi CD soundtrack which has every music cue, inlcuding the unused ones.
The show used quick cuts and rapid paced editing to maximum effect...long thoughtful shots might harm the finished project.
Who would play Number Two, Six's main enemy?
In my opinion, the 2009 remake with McKellen and Cavizel was just awful...but, as I said, that's just MY opinion.
As much as Sir Chris is a great filmmaker, I'd say leave it alone, Sir. Nobody can improve on perfection.
Over to you guys...
