Of all the cinematic depictions of the Frankenstein Monster, which had the hardest existence? Shelly's original no doubt had it the most tragic but let's confine this to film only.
My money is on Kiwistein. Shot in the head twice, victimized by a slimy mesmerist, suffered from agonizing skull surgery that reduced him to a snarling drunk, chugged toxic chloroform, and died screaming in an inferno. The only saving grace in his brief existence was a girl who inexplicably cared for him, which he reciprocated as best he could. Maybe he wouldn't have grown and developed a personality the way Karloff's did, but he never got the chance.
Now that I think of it, Christopher Lee's Creature went through very similar trials but never had a friend to wipe the blood from his hands.
