What sitcoms are forgotten but deserve a retrospective? Among them for me is DOBIE GILLIS. It's not only the titular character but also the supporting-character, Maynard G. Krebs, who deserves remembrance.  Because Maynard was an attempt to represent the Beatnik culture which happened during that decade.
I remember the treatment of Beatniks done in the Marvel book, The X-Men, when the Iceman and the Beast in their civilian guises visited a Beatnik tavern. There, a Beatnik was shown in what to me was the trademark attire of dark glasses and beret.  And he was spouting poetry which to me was another distinctive characteristic. And how about his name, Bernard? I always thought that was the classic name for a Beatnik.
Maynard from the Dobie Gillis series was supposed to be a Beatnik but the writers seemed to make it very low-key, maybe because they wanted to focus on Dobie.
Much as I hate to say it, my impression of the titular character, Dobie, is that he does not have really admirable characteristics. In one episode, he exploits Zelda who is infatuated with him.  Since Zelda is brainy, Dobie takes advantage of Zelda so that Dobie can improve his school work, which, in turn, is to impress the blonde girl, Thalia, whom Dobie really likes.  So of course Dobie has to fake that he's in love with Zelda in order to take advantage.  I thought it repugnant that he would exploit the frumpy Zelda that way.
Despite that repugnant characteristic of Dobie, the series over-all remains entertaining.
There are other series which are forgotten which some of you might find deserving of remembrance.
