All eyes are focussed on the Palme d'Or at Cannes but many more films are offered in smaller, parallel competitions or not in competition at all - as well as various retrospectives. French comic horror the Balconettes is not in main competition but may be up for the Queer Palm award.

The film features Swiss rhythmic gymnast and former beauty queen Souheila Yacoub who played Shishakli in Dune Part Two and is set to play a big role in Planet B, an upcoming sci-fi movie - after civilisation collapses on Earth, a group of strangers awake to find themselves on a different world.
