Cannes officially starts next Tuesday and lasts for ten days - though trading over dinners, expansive lunches and hotel rooms has already begun. Favourite for the Palme d'Or this year is Coppola's Megalopolis (though personally I wonder if dystopian futures have really had their day?) Cronenberg's The Shrouds is picking up lots of interest. It's good to see two genre works up for serious consideration.

There are lots of other goodies on offer. India's British-made Silent Midnight in the Directors' Fortnight section sounds fun.  Radhika Apte stars as a newly married woman in a Mumbai slum. Circumstances make her set out for revenge in what the makers promise is a fantastical punk comedy, a feminist revenge film, and a revamped vampire movie rolled into one. Sounds like it's worth a look.

A Maths graduate and Emmy nominee, Radhika knows the formula for success. She recently starred in the exceptional six-part TV series OK Computer which is set in a near-future India of towering smart holograms and drone superhighways. A hard-boiled Cyber Crime detective is called out of retirement when a self-driving taxi is hacked and ordered to kill an anonymous human victim.
