Horror Tech • Question about making videos using Windows

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've made a couple short videos over the years out of Windows' various movie and video maker programs.  Most are under 4 minutes, heck, most are under 40 seconds.  Then Windows will update or announce one day those programs are no longer supported, use this new program.  In most cases that means dead video.  Occasionally another program will be able to open or play the file but it seems particularly random.  I took pictures at the zoo and set it to music on Win's slide show and was able to play that as a video, but a phone video of a truck in our garden made with Win's movie maker program did not play at all.

Is there a program or a format for Windows devices that has withstood the test of time?

I'm not too concerned about quality, just longevity.  I'd love to shoot another video soon with the phone, and yes, it has a scary ending, but I'm hesitant to try if it will only be playable for a couple of years.

Any recommendations would be helpful and thanks in advance Monster Kids.
