Joko Anwar is the buzzing fizz-bomb of Indo horror movies - earlier successes as director include Satan's Slaves (2017), superhero movie Gundala (2019) and Impetigore (2019) - think of him as a cross between Charles Band and Roger Corman.
His latest venture Torture of the Grave is an extended version of a short he made in 2012. The film has proved a hit over Eid, a period during which surprisingly horror movies seem to dominate. You probably know that in Islam between the period of death and the burial ceremony, the spirit of a deceased Muslim takes a quick journey to Heaven and Hell, where it beholds visions of the bliss and torture awaiting humanity at the end of days - and is also required to repent in very physical terms for their personal sins.
Sounds like a fair deal to me - but imagine if you could go along for the ride...
